The popular Korean webtoon Villains Are Destined to Die is officially getting a TV anime adaptation. The announcement landed alongside a milestone for readers: the webtoon's main story concluded with Chapter 214.
What's Announced So Far
Details remain thin — no studio, staff, cast, release window, or format has been confirmed yet. What we know for sure is that the adaptation is in the works, and the timing is notable: the source material just finished its main run, so the anime can adapt a completed story.
The Story Behind the Series
Based on the original novel by Gwon Gyeoeul with the webtoon illustrated by SUOL, the series follows a university student who finds herself transported into the otome game she had been playing. She awakens as Penelope, the villainess of the game's notoriously difficult hard mode. With multiple routes capable of ending in her death, Penelope must raise the affection levels of the game's potential love interests and find a way to successfully clear the game.
Why It's a Big Deal for Webnovel Fans
The series has been serialized in Japan through Piccoma, where it won the SMARTOON category at the Piccoma AWARD 2026. English readers can find both the original webnovel and webtoon through Yen Press, which describes the premise: "You have failed to reach any love interest's ending. As a result, you will be given a penalty."
To celebrate the announcement, an X (Twitter) campaign runs until August 15, with 10 participants receiving a B2 poster featuring a newly drawn illustration by SUOL.
Published August 11, 2026. Anime Corner, Piccoma and Yen Press are the sources; we will update when the studio and staff are announced.
